THE COMPANY THAT YOU KEEP

What is the "Friendfluence'?

Robin Sharma delivers the message like this, “Associate only with positive, focused people who you can learn from and who will not drain your valuable energy with uninspiring attitudes. By developing relationships with those committed to constant improvement and the pursuit of the best that life has to offer, you will have plenty of company on your path to the top of whatever mountain you seek to climb.”

How many times have you heard "you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with?

I've always believed if you want to be wealthy, surround yourself by the wealthy. Study the wealthy's mindset, observe their lifestyles and notice their habits.

Likewise, if you wish to be more courageous, spend time with the bold, risk-takers. The people that never cease to amaze you by their gutsy action.

If you wish to develop professionally, network with an industry mogul.

Why are we more successful when the right people surround us?

  • There is supporting evidence that friends can bring out the best in us. More interestingly, friend coworkers tend to outperform nonfriend coworkers when given the opportunity to problem-solve, create, and collaborate on a project

  • "Friends also encourage us and pressure us to reach our potential. Friends set the standard to which a person feels they need to conform to"

  • "Friends play a contributing role to their friend's success by providing a connection to practical information, people or opportunities to help them succeed"

  • "Friends do favours such as giving friends jobs or assignments, setting them up on dates and introducing them to other friends. Friends provide opportunities and a connection to potential success that you wouldn’t have if you weren’t friends with them"

  • Lastly, friends provide real connections that make you feel supported and accepted which helps keep a healthy perspective. According to life coach, Simon Alexander Ong, "While it’s important to spend your time with those who are more successful than you, it is also great for your development to be around those who are at the same stage as you." This provides an opportunity to share your journey and ideas.

In conclusion, there is an uncompromising truth to the African proverb that says, "if you want to go fast, go alone if you want to go far, go together."

Are you at the fork in the road where the company you keep could either propel you forward or hinder your growth? Do you have a friend that you think could benefit from this message? Please like and share this post.
